Stress in the workplace
In the UK it is now generally accepted that stress in the workplace represents a huge problem, with over 11 million working days lost as a result of stress in 2015/2016. The consequences of this are far reaching- apart from the obvious loss of productivity there is the potential for long term damage to the health of employees. Studies indicate that stress is associated with many chronic conditions such as heart disease, anxiety and depression as well as musculoskeletal problems. There can be no doubt that stress costs us all dearly.
There is the added issue of the strain put on our bodies by working at a desk. It is a well known fact that sitting for a long period of time hunched over a computer is not good for our physical health and results in a build up of tension, especially in the neck, shoulders and back. Exercise is a great way to alleviate this tension, but is not always accessible or possible in the workplace.
